Reminders of What You Already Know

WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
You’ll be happy to know this website is NOT a blog.
Remarkably Obvious is more of a Sticky Note… a reminder of sorts. Helpful tales, essays, recaps of how the world works, how we ought to think, how we ought to behave. The goal is to remind and summarize—a nutshell of common sense, remarkably obvious ideas, accepted across the ages. Ideas that foster human flourishing (be kind, don’t cheat, cook raw meat… that sort of thing).
Rightfully, you may ask, “Well, if everyone already knows what you plan to write, what’s the point?… why should I bother to read it?" Samuel Johnson, a prominent scholar of the 1700’s, put it this way: “People need to be reminded more often than they need to be instructed.” His assumption, and I believe, the personal experience of almost everyone on the planet, is this: We humans don’t need new information to right the ship, straighten the course, get back on track, or turn things around; we simply need to put into practice those sensible, intuitive principles we so regularly, enthusiastically neglect.
With Sticky Notes in mind, let us embark on a journey of remembrance. A journey of great necessity, for in my 66-year lifetime, the national common-sense memory has faded and the waters have been profoundly muddied. There is much we need to recall.
